Equine Therapy

Kim Mills is a licensed professional counselor who received her masters degree in counseling from the University of North Texas in 2005. She has been utilizing horses in counseling since 2006 and is  also certified through Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA), Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH International) and Natural Lifemanship.

Equine Assisted Therapy is an innovative form of therapy that incorporates horses into non traditional counseling sessions.  The experiential nature of Equine Assisted Therapy allows client’s behaviors and emotions to surface in a way that traditional talk therapy does not allow.  It has been used successfully in a variety of mental health settings.  This type of counseling involves the client learning to work in relationship with a horse. At Ranch Hand Rescue, Inc. helping to rehabilitate the horses during these sessions will have a positive impact on both the client and the horse.
